“the ukeboys” are a trio of German musicians from Hamburg Altona. Singer and ukulele player Tobbo Ukeboy, ukulele player Hairy Ukeboy and cajón player Bubi Ukeboy cover metal, rock and pop rock classics in a minimalist style.

Tobbo Ukeboy, who has been an unsuccessful bass player in several heavy metal bands for more than a decade, picked up his ukulele for the first time in 2010 and realized how to play real music. In a beery hour on January 13, 2011 he talked his former best friend round to found a ukulele cover band to fill the local pedestrian areas with sound. This marked the birth of “the ukeboys”.

Having played a few concerts in the streets, they soon had the wherewithal to pay for their first electrified ukuleles. From then on nothing could get in the way of festival and concert bookings.

After two years of working creatively, countless gigs and their “uke up your ass!”-tour in more than nine different cities in Germany, the two realized that something was missing. They needed a metronome. In another beery hour their former roadie Bubi Ukeboy was turned into a regular member. Since February 19, 2013 he has been dictating the rhythm with his cajón and egg shaker.

The musical development turned out to be not only satisfying but also successful, e.g. when supporting Andrew W.K. or the Dropkick Murphys among numerous other gigs and festivals. By popular demand, “the ukeboys” recorded their debut album “In Case of Party” with Eike Freese at Chameleon Studios Hamburg in February 2016. Containing songs like “Enter Sandman” by Metallica, “Breaking the Law” by Judas Priest and “Faith” by George Michael, the album was released on May 21, 2016 and several hundreds were sold within the first couple of months.

After a spectacular summer in 2016 including gigs at Hamburg Port Anniversary and Südwinsen Festival the year ended with their first international gig in Switzerland.

To be continued.
