Roer from Falster in the Danish Sports Hall of Fame

Olympic gold medalists Mads Rasmussen of Falster and his partner Rasmus Kvist were inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame on Saturday.

A career in figure skating ended over four years ago, but going forward, Mads Rasmussen and Rasmus Kvist will associate with some of the biggest names in the sport as the gold duo earned a spot in the Danish Sports Hall of Fame at numbers 36 and 37.

The entry was published in the Sports 2020 awards program, which will be broadcast on DR1 on Saturday evening.

- It's a huge honor. And it's great to have confirmation that it's not just our parents who think we've done well.

We were named Foundation of the Year in 2002, Sports Name of the Year in 2007, and are now inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame. With this, we can say that the ring is over, ”says Rasmus Kvist in a press release from the Danish Sports Confederation.

Together with Mads Rasmussen, he was for a number of years one of the best in the world in easy sculls.

Won Olympic gold in London

This duo is especially remembered for winning Olympic gold in London in 2012, which was an absolute highlight in their careers.

He won bronze at the Beijing Games four years ago, and the two rowers' full biographies also include several WC titles.

- They have performed at the highest level for many years and at the London Olympics they delivered one of the most nerve-wracking and intense events in Danish Olympic history.

“So it is well deserved that they can now be inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame alongside some of the greatest athletes Denmark has ever produced,” says DIF Chairman Niels Nygaard.

Among those already inducted into the Hall of Fame are Danish sports celebrities such as sailor Paul Elvström, swimmer Ragnhild Hweger and racing driver Ole Olsen.

Three years ago, another rower, Eskild Ebbesen, also became a member of the tough company.

- It's fantastic to be in the company of other big names. I often sat in Herning at a sports show and saw them being inducted into the Hall of Fame, and I can honestly say that I am very proud that we are now in the same company, says Mads Rasmussen.
